CAH Webinar Part 4: Medical Records, Surgical Services and Swing Beds
With shifting federal expectations and regulatory scrutiny, now is the time for Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) to revisit their compliance strategies. IHA’s ongoing CoP webinar series provides timely, targeted support to help you stay ahead.
Health policy expert Nancy M. Ruzicka will lead this fourth of five sessions from 9:30-11:30 a.m. CT on Aug. 15, focusing on CoPs related to medical records, surgical services, organ procurement and swing bed services. The webinar will also explore how to use Appendix PP to interpret swing bed regulations more effectively.
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Explain the informed consent elements required by CMS;
- Describe CAH requirements for history and physical examination; and
- Identify how to comply with organ procurement organization notification requirements.
This webinar is ideal for hospital administrators, compliance officers, quality improvement and risk management directors, and clinical leaders across nursing, pharmacy and social work.

Funding : Adolescents Navigating Change, Health and Ongoing Recovery
Funding is available to implement Adolescents Navigating Change, Health, and Ongoing Recovery (ANCHOR) programs in Illinois. The goal of ANCHOR is to reduce adolescent deaths from synthetic opioids by achieving the following objectives:
- Increase engagement of adolescents, particularly those who may be less motivated to seek help, and their families or caregivers, in the system of care.
- Increase access to evidence-based and innovative resources and programs, including harm reduction, treatment, and recovery supports, tailored for adolescents and their families.
- Reduce barriers to retention for adolescents and their families in the system of care.
To accomplish these objectives, ANCHOR subrecipients will establish programs that can include:
- Comprehensive interventions, including screening and/or crisis response, adolescent treatment services, and outreach and engagement initiatives.
- Innovative approaches such as online recovery groups, recovery high schools, recovery groups for adolescents, and evidence-based family support interventions.
- Telehealth services and training and technical assistance to providers to support online activities.
- Harm reduction education and programs for adolescents and their families as well as other people who interact with adolescents.
A total of $3 million is available to be awarded for ANCHOR funding over a period of three years to a maximum of five organizations. Applicants may apply for a pro-rated amount of up to $583,000 for the first period of performance and for up to $1 million for subsequent periods of performance, if renewed. The amount will vary based upon the number of programs awarded. The initial period will span Dec. 1, 2025–June 30, 2026. The deadline to apply for ANCHOR funding is Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. CT.
